200 MPH Flying Car With 450-Mile Range Edges Closer To Reality

While Samson describes it as a sports car, we can’t imagine customers cross-shopping the Switchblade with a Toyota GR86, Subaru BRZ, or Mazda MX-5 Miata. Then again, the flying sports car is costlier than these traditional sports cars. According to the company’s website, the standard model will retail from $170,000. Models like the Switchblade Limited command an eye-watering $770,000.

On the road, Samson claims the flying car can reach 125 mph and provide the thrills of a conventional sports coupe. With a three-wheel layout, we doubt it will be as balanced as one of the aforementioned Japanese cars, but that’s a small price to pay when you can take to the skies at a moment’s notice. With space for two occupants and their luggage, it won’t make for an ideal family car.

The Switchblade isn’t the only flying car; Alef is also working on one, and so is Klein Vision with its AirCar.
