2025 Ram 1500 TRX

Overview

With a lane-hogging body, a beefed-up suspension, and buckets of attitude, the 2025 Ram 1500 TRX is a stallion compared with average workhorse pickups. The off-road-focused truck is based on one, though—and a good one at that—as the regular half-ton Ram 1500 donates its platform and luxurious cabin to the cause. While a supercharged V-8 used to power this beast, that engine has been discontinued. Thankfully, it appears the Ford F-150 Raptor-fighting TRX will live on. It will just sound a lot different and likely not be nearly as powerful, as it’s expected to adopt a 510-plus-hp twin-turbo straight-six. Before we get too down on the demise of the Hemi V-8, let’s wait and see what tricks Ram has up its sleeve with the follow-up to its modern performance-truck icon.

What’s New for 2025?

Ram originally announced 2024 as the final model year for the TRX—or at least the V-8 version. Now, after a prototype was spied tested in the wild, it appears the nameplate will continue to be build, just without its traditional supercharged Hemi V-8. We suspect that engine will be replaced by a tuned-up version of the Hurricane inline-six that’s currently offered in the Ram’s corporate cousins, the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs. We expect to see cosmetic changes to the truck’s front and rear fascia as well as some styling and equipment changes inside, but the overall package will remain much the same. The standard Ram 1500 on which the TRX is based is also set to receive a minor facelift for the 2025 model year, but we review that model separately.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

$100,000 (est)

Ram hasn’t released pricing yet for the updated Hurricane-powered TRX, but we suspect it will receive a slight price increase over the outgoing V-8–powered model. When we learn more about the 2025 TRX’s pricing and features, we’ll update this story with those details.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

While last year’s model was powered by a fiery 702-hp supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, the 2025 TRX is rumored to be switching to a twin-turbo inline-six. The 3.0-liter Hurricane engine that’s currently offered in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is likely what Ram is dropping under the TRX’s bulging and vented hood, but we suspect it may get tuned up from the Jeep’s current 510-hp output (possibly making around 550 horses). While that power output would do well against the Ford F-150 Raptor, the more powerful Raptor R comes with a 700-hp V-8. When we find out more about the updated TRX’s engine and specs, we’ll update this story with details.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Ram has redefined expectations for truck interiors with its latest half-ton pickups, which deliver rich-looking materials and impeccable insulation from outside noise. That level of luxury and refinement carries over into the performance-oriented TRX, which will likely be offered solely as a crew cab with a short cargo bed. While we don’t expect huge changes inside over the previous model year, the 2025 TRX should receive some cosmetic and equipment upgrades. The base model may still come with cloth upholstery, with standard equipment based on the Ram 1500 Rebel. However, last year’s model was offered with optional TR1 and TR2 packages that made the cabin look and feel significantly snazzier thanks to leather-covered surfaces and a mix of microsuede and carbon-fiber accents. The TRX’s flat-bottom steering wheel features a pair of prominent paddle shifters, but there’s also a floor shifter located on the center console. The TRX’s top options include a digital rearview mirror, a head-up display, and heated and ventilated front seats.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Vertically mounted in the middle of the dashboard on every TRX is a 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The unit boasts Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, built-in navigation, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The display can be divided into separate menus so that multiple applications can be open at once, and it also features physical knobs and buttons on the screen’s surrounding bezel for more intuitive controls. Unfortunately, our long-term TRX’s large, 12.0-inch center touchscreen suffered frequent blackouts, something we haven’t experienced with the company’s Uconnect systems that run smaller screens. The truck can also be outfitted with a mighty 900-watt, 19-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Ram’s limited and powertrain warranties align with all rivals except for Nissan, which covers those areas for longer periods: five years or 100,000 miles. However, Ram doesn’t offer any complimentary maintenance like Chevy, GMC, and Toyota do.

  • Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
  • No complimentary scheduled maintenance
