The automaker also intends to launch additional accessories aimed at outdoorsy types, including a travel kitchen and a cargo box that fits on the rear of the vehicle.
That surprisingly low price has led to surprising early popularity. In a post shared via X on March 8, CEO RJ Scaringe said Rivian has taken nearly 70,000 reservations for the new SUV. “In less than 24 hours, we’ve taken more than 68,000 R2 reservations. We are thrilled to see this vehicle resonate so strongly with our community!” wrote the chief executive.
Interested customers need to pay a $100 refundable fee to place a reservation for the R2. This is a clear sign that there is strong interest in the R2.
If $45,000 is still too steep, Rivian revealed the even smaller R3 and R3X. These compact crossovers may not have the capability of their bigger brothers, but they will be cheaper than the R2 and R1 models, although a final number has not been confirmed.
