After three years on the market, the technology featured inside the Maverick is starting to look a bit dated. Like its sibling, the Bronco Sport, the Maverick still uses an old version of Ford’s infotainment software called Sync 3, which was initially released back in 2015. It handles all the basic functions just fine, but it lacks important Sync 4 features such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, more advanced voice commands, and user customization. It also lives on an eight-inch screen, which is small by 2023 standards.
Upgrading to Sync 4 will make the Maverick more modern inside, something that few owners would object to. We could easily imagine Ford keeping Sync 3 on the base XL trim to keep the price down, making Sync 4 optional on the XLT and standard on Lariat. It’s possible that an upgrade to Sync 4 will be part of a facelift in the near future.
