TOYOTA-LEXUS: Toyota jumps 14% on hybrid strength; Lexus up 18%

Toyota brand sales jumped 14 percent in June to 168,680 on growing strength of its hybrid portfolio, while booming sales of the NX helped push Lexus brand sales up 18 percent to 26,768.

Brands: Toyota, up 14%; Lexus, up 18%

Notable nameplates: Toyota RAV4, up 15%, Camry, up 24%, Highlander, up 17%; Lexus RX, up 11%, NX, up 85%, ES, down 6.3%

Inventory: 167,666, a 22-day supply.

Did you know? Toyota Motor North America sold 51,535 hybridized, fuel cell or battery-electric vehicles in June, representing 26 percent of sales.

Quote: “Our production and wholesale in Q3 will be over Q2, and we expect it to be really robust,” said Dave Christ, head of the Toyota division. “We added about 5,000 units to stock [in June], and although the numbers indicate a material improvement in stock, it’s really still a sold-out environment, where we do have ground stock, but it’s typically cars passing through” to waiting customers.
