Detwiler is known for his antics of torture-testing cars. One of his most famous series was destroying a Toyota Hilux after Top Gear claimed the truck was indestructible. He came up with the idea of dropping a Hilux from 10,000 feet, which naturally crushed the truck.

As for the F8, the fire almost completely burned down the entire vehicle, including the twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 engine. The carbon ceramic brakes and the titanium exhaust partially survived, said to be valued at $8,000. They also recovered a Ferrari script badge and two Scuderia shields.

Eventually, the fire department arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading throughout the cornfield. According to Detwiler, his toasted F8 was bought for around $400,000, while the minivan (with only 5,000 miles on the odo) used for filming rolling shots was a rental.
