An obvious rival for the GLG would be the three-door Land Rover Defender 90, especially in V8 guise, which is far shorter than the five-door Defender 110. The GLG will likely still come with rear seats, but they’ll be a lot more cramped, and cargo space will shrink, too.
While the baby G-Class is likely to be cheaper than its bigger brother – the current G550 starts at $139,900, and the AMG G63 is $179,000 – we still expect this to be an expensive vehicle. The G-Class heritage alone guarantees that, and the high prices of this model line have not affected its continued popularity.
That said, using the MMA platform makes it possible for the smaller G-Class to be pitched at an entirely different price point.
