There is reason to believe the latest 5 Series and i5 Touring will make it here, however. The new M5 Touring is expected to make it stateside, finally giving BMW something to directly compete with the Audi RS6 Avant. Whether that means less powerful versions of the Touring will follow remains to be seen.
Both Audi and Mercedes offer wagons in this segment, but they’re limited to mildly rugged, high-riding variants (A6 allroad and E-Class All-Terrain) or all-out performance models (RS6 Avant and E63 Wagon). We’d love to see wagon versions of the 530i or E350 as practical, no-nonsense, more elegant alternatives to a sea of SUVs.
If the new 5 Series Touring mirrors the sedan, it will also come with six-cylinder power in the 540i. The electric i5 Touring, meanwhile, could make up to 590 horsepower in M60 guise.
We expect the 5 Series and i5 Touring models to be revealed imminently.
