McLaren CEO Says Electric Supercar Won't Be Ready Before 2030

It sounds like Leiters threw some barely veiled shade in the direction of Rimac with his take on electric supercars. The four-motor Nevera EV weighs 4,740 pounds, far more than any McLaren supercar, and makes 1,914 hp. It has already shattered multiple speed records, but this clearly isn’t the main goal for Leiters.

McLaren’s CEO said that an electric supercar from the brand should weigh around 1,500 kg. That works out to around 3,300 pounds, or about the same as the current McLaren Artura hybrid.

“Weight is the core of our brand,” reiterated Leiters. “We can’t afford to have a heavy car, which is not nimble, and the driver is not connected to the car when it goes into a curve or onto a track. This is crucial to us.”
