AutoZone Says Hackers Stole Personal Data Of 185,000 Customers In Cyberattack

AutoZone, the largest automotive parts retailer in America, announced that it was hacked by a ransomware gang in May. BleepingComputer reports that AutoZone’s data stores were breached earlier this year in May, with the personal information of nearly 185,000 customers leaked. Ransomware gang Cl0p claimed responsibility for the attack, with hackers uncovering susceptibilities in the file transfer tool MOVEit.

Other affected organizations include the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles, the State of Maine, British Airways, and the New York City public school system. Per the report, the total financial damage sits around the $12 billion mark, with estimates suggesting at least 62 million people were affected by the data leak.

AutoZone only reported the ransomware attack this week, informing the Maine Attorney General of the breach. The company first investigated the matter before eradicating any vulnerabilities in its system.
