There’s no mention of powertrain upgrades, which means the rugged Land Cruiser soldiers on with the two standard engine options.
Traditional customers will be pleased to know the trusty 4.5-liter V8 turbodiesel is still available. It produces 202 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. However, a four-cylinder will also be offered for the first time in 70 Series history. This 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which does duty in the Hilux, has 201 hp and 367 lb-ft on tap.
The larger V8 receives a five-speed manual transmission, while the modern four-pot is paired exclusively with an automatic gearbox. It would be interesting to see if these upgrades are available to older 70 Series models, as this would allow owners to create their own restomods, in a sense.
Sadly, this wonderful off-roader is not available in the United States. However, the Land Cruiser recently made a comeback in a different form than before.
