The point I’m trying to make is that experiences are more important than acceleration times. Nurburgring lap times are an excellent way of putting overall performance into context, but let’s be honest here for a second. The new Civic Type R might hold the record, but you’ll never be able to replicate the time set by a professional driver. In fact, if you head out there, you’ll most likely get spanked by a local in a diesel delivery van. Just ask Jeremy Clarkson.
I recently drove the best car I’ve ever experienced. The 2023 Porsche 911 GT3, with its double wishbone suspension, naturally aspirated engine, PDK transmission, and rear-wheel drive, is the most complete sports car I’ve ever experienced.
It does 0 to 60 mph in I-could-care-less seconds. The acceleration and top speed are just figures, but the steering feel provided by the EPAS, the grip, and the flat six’s ability to rev to 9,000 rpm make this car great.
