Mazda CX-70 Will Make Its Debut On 30 January

While Mazda has yet to confirm the engine options, it has filed paperwork with the California Air Resources Board (CARB), which effectively leaked the powertrain options before the launch. As we suspected, the CX-70 will be equipped with the same engines as the CX-90, with which it shares a platform.

The 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid is the more practical choice, but we’re looking forward to the high-output 3.3-mild hybrid. This 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-six, which emits a beautiful BMW-like howl, produces 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft and even makes the larger CX-90 feel spirited. The detuned version makes 280 hp and 332 lb-ft, which is also perfectly adequate for a good time.

We can’t wait to feel what this engine can do in the CX-70’s smaller body.
