Considering Eric had difficulties cranking the engine, the main issue could lie in the crankshaft assembly. He removed the spark plugs and saw that one had an obliterated tip. It seemed he was off to a bad start, but it quickly got worse.
Upon removing the AC compressor, power steering pump, coolant reservoir, and fuel lines, the presenter saw shattered parts from different engine areas, including the block, exposing the internals. The EJ20X may be considered a reliable engine, but no power plant is always safe from going bad, including ones from brands like Toyota.
With these accessories out of the way, Eric started taking out the intake manifold. One of the intake ports had broken guides, which, at this point, was not surprising.
