If you aren’t familiar with the Mega Cruiser, it’s about time you got acquainted with the Hummer H1’s Japanese counterpart. Like the Hummer, the vehicle was originally produced by Toyota for military purposes before being converted into civilian models called the Mega Cruiser. Powered by a 4.1-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine, it produced 153 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque sent to all four wheels via a four-speed auto and two-speed transfer case. As this is a serious off-roader, it also boasts portal axles, locking front, center, and rear differentials, four-wheel steering, and even a ladder on the back.
There’s a belief less than 150 were produced for civilian use, and this one is even rarer for a couple of reasons. First, it was imported, converted to left-hand drive, and given plenty of tasteful mods such as leather upholstery, wood interior trim, an upgraded sound system, a rear-view camera, a center-console refrigerator, and more. It was also reviewed personally by Doug Demuro on his YouTube channel, and it only had 56,500 miles. This created the perfect storm to fetch over $300,000 on Cars and Bids in 2022.
