The parts looked tarnished because the owner appeared to have missed or ignored the oil change intervals. With 132,352 miles on the odometer, this case showed surprisingly minor wear. Darker oil was seen on other parts of the cam assembly. Upon inspection of the oil filter and oil pan, there were small metal bits that obviously didn’t belong there.

After removing the valve timing cover, the presenter saw the issue, which was the missing bolts on the rear intake bank cam gear, which were said to have backed out over time. As a result, the camshaft was out of timing, and the valves started colliding with the pistons. The valves were then bent and stuck in an open position.
