The Deepal G318 will be powered by two electric motors (one at the front and one at the rear) paired with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine serving as a range extender. The e-motors can produce 258 horsepower. The setup enables a China’s CLTC-rated range between 320 and 746 miles, depending on whether the car runs on a 19.0kWh or a 28.4kWh lithium-ion battery.

Besides the European market, Changan also confirmed its intention to expand into more Asian markets, aiming to achieve an annual sales target of 450,000 by 2024. That is 17% of Changan’s overall sales of 2.5 million last year.

Making this global aspiration possible is investing in a new manufacturing plant in Thailand worth £197 million (or about $251 million at current exchange rates). The plant will produce left- and right-hand-drive models for global markets, starting with 100,000 units in 2025 before ramping it up to 200,000.
