Porsche is adamant that the Macan EV delivers a “sports car feeling.” It’s a tall ask, considering the sheer weight of an electric vehicle. Still, the Taycan is living proof that you can overcome the effects of weight by using intelligent engineering.
The Macan EV will have loads of grip, as both models (Macan 4 and Macan Turbo) come standard with a dual-motor setup, with rear-axle steering also available. There is no physical coupling in this new all-wheel drive system, called Porsche Traction Management. Porsche claims it’s five times faster than a conventional system, which allows it to make decisions in near real-time. It can detect wheelspin in 10 milliseconds, which is twice as fast as it takes visual stimulus to reach the brain. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus is also standard, as is an electronically controlled differential lock on the rear axle.
The drive mode selector governs the power distribution. Porsche hasn’t said what driving modes are available, but we’re willing to bet there will be more than on the ICE Macan.
Both models come with air suspension and electronic damping. The dampers also come with two-valve technology, which means the driving characteristics between the modes will vastly differ.
