Last year, Mercedes-Benz dealers shared that customers aren’t responding well to EVs, with many unable to afford them. It’s worth noting the cheapest Mercedes electric vehicle is the $52,750 EQB in 250+ guise. That’s a lot of money for anyone and exceeds the starting price of cheaper gasoline models by thousands.
Speaking to Bloomberg Television, CEO Ola Kallenius admitted that EV pricing won’t soon reach ICE levels. Mercedes won’t engage in price cuts like some of its rivals have, with the CEO noting it needs to protect the value of its vehicles for the customer’s sake. “I don’t think anyone ever thought that the transformation of the auto industry would be a straight line. There will be peaks and troughs, and things like [development] of charging infrastructure and other enabling factors will determine how the market develops.”
Kallenius said that Mercedes is in a good position, as it can build electrified combustion vehicles and EVs.
