Toyota's New Original Animated Series Showcases GR Models Versus Autonomous Vehicles

Toyota has announced a new five-episode original anime series called Grip, which will showcase its exhilarating GR sports cars in a futuristic environment ruled by autonomous vehicles.

According to the Japanese automaker, protagonist Jae Kang, in his Toyota GR Corolla, will run the “emotionless, joyless, boring” streets. He will be joined by Linh “Nitro” Lam, driving a Toyota GR Supra, and Kumail Jo in a Toyota GR86. They will go against antagonist Dr. Aron Synth, who was “once a famous driver” but is now “hellbent on eradicating human driving after losing a hand.”

Based on the trailer embedded below, commuters are riding in “lifeless” self-driving vehicles enabled by higher levels of autonomous driving systems compared to what’s commercially available today.
