However, the carbon capture technology is still in its early development stage, so it still has the potential to scale up to become a viable option for passenger cars. After all, Toyota still wants to keep making combustion cars in the electrification era, and tech like this can save the company from criticism for its slow yet strategic shift to EVs.

“It is still very early in the development of this carbon dioxide capture technology, but we are utilizing motorsports to speed up development,” said Naoaki Ito, project general manager of GR vehicle development.
