McLaren previously told CarBuzz that the P1 successor would not arrive before this year: “We have previously said that there will be a successor to the P1, but can’t give any specific details beyond [that] it will not be before 2024 at the earliest.” That was in 2022, and
The McLaren P18 will succeed the P1 – the hypercar that took on the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918 – at the top of the brand’s Ultimate Series lineup. Ferrari will rival the P18 with a LaFerrari successor expected to run a hybrid powertrain with over a thousand horses, too. Meanwhile, Porsche is expected to join the hypercar slugfest with a 918 Spyder successor previewed by the Mission X concept.
Like Ferrari’s upcoming halo car, we can expect McLaren to reveal the P18 later this year. The new halo car, along with Artura, should take electrification up a notch in the lineup, with the brand showing interest in developing an EV but understanding the “technology is not there yet” to make it truly supercar-worthy.
