The R3X will inevitably sprint to 60 mph in less than three seconds, which is entirely irrelevant. The feel of the thing will be more important, and Rivian has more technology to work with than Lancia ever did.
There will be no physical linkage between the motors, enabling the coding guys to develop all sorts of exciting driving modes. We know Rivian has a habit of updating its driving modes, so there must be a team of coders in a basement writing a Rally Mode at this very moment.
The R3X will be more accessible than the Integrale, too. It takes a driver with incredible skill to get the most out of an Integrale, but the driving modes in the Rivian will undoubtedly flatter the driver. Rivian can use active torque vectoring, active torque splitting, and regenerative braking to keep the driver away from ditches.
Is this cheating? No, it’s not. Name a new car without any electronic interference. And besides, who really cares if the result is the same? You’ll have an absolute riot, feeling like a hero while the car works in the background to keep you safe. It’s like Viagra for driving – technically cheating, but you still have a great time.
