One potential application is to add this to existing dampening systems using springs and or hydraulic fluids. We suspect that it would not work with magnetorheological suspension like the kind you get in a Lamborghini Huracan because insulating the two different magnetic fields would be nearly impossible. The patent also suggests that the new inductive system could work independently, but it remains to be seen if this would be cost-effective and if there would be any weight savings.

Regardless, the system offers ultra-fine dampening control. The patent says that “a progressive or degressive dampening behavior can be achieved, depending on the compression travel or rebound travel.”

To us, this sounds like the suspension can be more acutely damped in microseconds, incrementally increasing or reducing the dampening effect to maintain stable handling behavior and exceptional ride quality.
