General Motors has issued a recall of its heavy-duty trucks due to tailgates that may inadvertently open, which can lead to accidents on the road, especially when the cargo bed is loaded.
A total of 323,232 trucks are affected: 128,966 are Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD, while 194,266 are GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD. The affected models were manufactured between September 8, 2020, and May 16, 2023.
The main culprit of the issue is the push-button power tailgate. According to the safety recall report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the button located on the outside isn’t completely waterproof, which, under certain conditions, could see water seeping inside and causing a short circuit.
