Chevrolet is recalling 9,423 examples of the 2022 and 2023 Bolt EUV in America over a potential defect with the Webasto high-voltage portable charging cords. General Motors says this could increase the risk of electrical shock, which could potentially injure an owner. The automaker describes this as a “very brief electrical shock.”
The problem stems from the high-voltage charging cords provided with the model years mentioned above. These units may have defective software, leading them to continue charging even with the loss of ground connection. The problem is not with the cable or the software specifically but with both being used together.
Owners of the affected vehicles will have their portable charging cords inspected free of charge by a Chevrolet dealer. According to a bulletin from General Motors, there is no immediate solution to the problem. However, when parts with the updated software become available, Chevrolet will replace them at no cost.
