While the tiny Toyota Starlet only saw a short stint in the US market in the 1980s, this particular KP61 model listed on eBay is quite interesting because it sports a Cosworth YB inline-four, the same engine that powered the 1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth homologation special.
As a result, the Starlet in question produces 460 horsepower on high boost, making it far more powerful than the 300-hp GR Corolla. That kind of oomph is also far superior to the desirable JDM Starlet GT Turbo – one of the greatest hits from Toyota in the 1990s.
In addition to pulling off the very clean swap, the seller upgraded the YB engine with several aftermarket parts like a Turbo Technics T36 turbocharger, new valves, an aftermarket intake cam, high-pressure oil pump, Mahle pistons and bearings, a hydraulic clutch conversion, a Custom Pro intercooler, and a genuine Cosworth crankshaft, among others.
