Electric Ford Explorer Will Do What No EV Has Ever Done Before To Prove Itself

The Ford Explorer EV, which shares underpinnings with a Volkswagen, is a pre-production model and does not have special modifications. Although, a crew will be backing Alford for security, medical, and technical assistance.

Ford claims that charging the Explorer EV from 10 to 80 percent would take about 25 minutes only using a DC fast charger. While charging, Alford could grab a snack before getting back on the road for the world-record trip. She would have to make a stop for charging approximately every 300 miles at most based on the predicted range.

“This is an epic journey to prove what’s possible in an electric vehicle, as we know range and charging are the two main concerns people have when thinking about making the switch to electric,” said Martin Sander, general manager of Ford Model e Europe. “Lexie will be putting charging infrastructure to the ultimate test; if she can get around the world in an EV, then anyone can use one in Europe, every day.”
