It remains to be seen what comes of the TLC hearing, but should things go south for the yellow cab taxi drivers, they could have their licenses suspended and face a fine of $500.
The 2013 Crown Vic belongs to Haroon Abdullah, who has covered 491,000 miles during the vehicle’s tenure. The other is owned by Ravinder Sharma, who has driven his Crown Victoria 550,000 miles. Sharma, 64, plans to retire in a couple of months and hopes he can drive his beloved Ford until that time. He wants to retire alongside his trusty taxi. “I’m thinking if they allow me to drive, I drive. If not, I did 35 years,” he said.
Abdullah wants to replace his Crown Victoria with a new Sienna but is struggling to find the money for a down payment.
It’s a real shame that the TLC is phasing the Crown Vic out for good, as the body-on-frame Ford is one of the toughest cars money can buy.
