Aside from the removable roof, the Venom F5 Coupe and Roadster might look the same, but Malinick assures us almost every body panel is different.
When asked about the challenges encountered and the back and forth between the design and engineering teams to create a topless supercar that can potentially crest 300 mph, Malinick explains, “Almost every panel is different, but there wasn’t much [back and forth between departments]. Because we’re small, we can adapt, and we’re always working really closely with the engineering team. There’s always compromise in any relationship, but we work closely with them on every project.”
The most significant difference between the two body styles is at the rear, where the lack of a roof in the F5 Roadster has a drastic impact on airflow and aerodynamic effectiveness. “The biggest change was the rear decklid, which is about 100mm (4 inches) higher than the coupe,” he says. “We had to do this to minimize laminar flow separation over the greenhouse,” a necessary factor when trying to keep a supercar pinned to the tarmac at high speeds.
