- Audi’s flagship sedan to remain in production until 2027
- The automaker is reportedly considering a second facelift
- All-electric successor was originally due in 2024, delayed by three years
Audi will extend the lifespan of the current-generation Audi A8 by three years, according to a new report out of Germany.
Auto, Motor & Sport says the flagship is expected to stick around until 2027, with a second facelift coming to keep it feeling fresh. The company’s cutting-edge replacement, an all-electric sedan (previewed by the Grandesphere concept), was supposed to arrive this year, but numerous delays have pushed the launch date back by three years. VW’s Cariad software division bore the brunt of the blame for this delay.
As a result, Ingolstadt’s luxury brand will have no choice but to prolong the life of its big sedan, which remains a popular buy in China. In the United States, it’s one of the weakest-selling Audis in the lineup, with 2,259 units sold in 2023.
The A8’s success in China is one of the reasons why it isn’t going out of production just yet.
