F1 fans started booking a year ago when the average night stay was $566 per night for a hotel without a view of the strip. You can now book the same accommodation for less than $200 per night. Hotels near the track or with a track view still charge over $1,000 per night, but these rates are also down compared to where they were a year ago.
The trend also applies to ticket prices. The average price of a ticket dropped from $1,645 to $1,060 in the month leading up to the Grand Prix. Even that’s still too expensive. You can buy a ratty Honda Civic project car for that. And have enough left over to fix it up.
To add to the controversy, Nevada residents did not get the substantial discount they were promised, and one of the larger planned grandstands could not be built because the spectators would have had a poor view of the race.
