Most Reliable Car Brands: The Top Trusted Names For Dependability

Consumer Reports predicted reliability score: 70/100

JD Power score (problems per 100 vehicles): 205

The above results are a bit mixed for Honda. It was the fourth-best brand for predicted reliability from CR, but the number of problems per 100 vehicles reported by JD Power for 2023 puts the brand below the industry average. Still, few would deny that most Hondas can be considered highly reliable.

Starting out as a motorcycle company, Honda branched out into cars and became the second-largest Japanese automaker worldwide in 2001. Like many Japanese carmakers, Honda enjoys a reputation as one of the most reliable car brands on the market. That’s contributed to nameplates like the Civic and Accord achieving great success. Not every version of the popular Civic is equally reliable, though.

Like Toyota, Honda takes a “wait-and-see” approach to new technologies before implementing them, so as not to tarnish its reliability reputation.
