Espinosa also promised that the 2025 Armada will receive a significant technological update: “Probably where we’re stretching the most is on technology. Of course, the current Patrol [the Armada’s name in other markets] is relatively old, and we don’t have the best infotainment system, and that’s where you’ll see a big improvement in that technology.” That’s probably where the claim that the new Armada is Range Rover-like comes from.
The current V8 produces 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque, so what engine will replace it? The Japanese automaker currently only produces one twin-turbocharged V6. The VR is used in the GT-R, Infiniti Q50 and Q60, and the all-new Nissan Z.
Nissan will likely use the 3.0-liter version but tweaked specifically for the Armada. In the Z, it produces 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, but Nissan may sacrifice outright power to push that torque figure beyond 400 lb-ft. It will also have to lower the point at which the torque kicks in because it’s currently only available from 5,200 rpm, which is not ideal for a large luxury SUV.
