If the hot hatch is getting heavier, you can be sure that the sedan version thereof will follow suit, but ballooning weight seems to be a trend at BMW. Not only is the XM halo SUV – its first standalone M car since the M1 supercar – a 6,000-lb monster, but the incoming M5 will be portly, too – the machine known as the original supercar in a suit seems to want to supersize that suit and will tip the scales (possibly breaking them) at nearly 5,400 lbs.

However, that weight should be well spread in the case of the new 1 Series (and, therefore, the new 2 Series).
