Schumacher’s team has bagged 19 NHRA world championship titles and 367 Wallys, including five he won in a Funny car. Schumacher is the only team owner with wins from each of NHRA’s four Professional categories. His son is also an eight-time world champion, winning the 1999, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2014 seasons. He left his business legacy with DSR Performance, a race engineering and aftermarket parts brand.
Schumacher also contributed to safety innovations, such as the roof-mounted escape hatch and the lever mounted on the brake handle for activating a fire suppression system.
Schumacher was inducted into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 2007, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in Alabama in 2013, and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in Florida in 2019.
