According to Toyota, the Tacoma’s retaining nuts on the rear axle could loosen over time due to welding debris left on the assembly. These nuts could eventually fall off, which isn’t good news for the truck’s occupants and other road users.
“If separation occurs, this can affect vehicle stability and brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash,” Toyota said in its press release about the recall.
Obviously, the fix for this issue isn’t complicated. Toyota dealers will inspect the Tacoma’s rear axle and retighten the nuts for free. However, if certain axle parts are damaged due to the faulty assembly, they will be repaired or replaced.
