Tesla Is Redeveloping Its Unbreakable Cybertruck Glass

The patent describes “a multilayer glass stack for a vehicle windshield with improved durability,” one that includes an internal-facing glass layer, an adhesive interlayer, and an external-facing layer, the latter of which could include borosilicate but would not include soda lime glass. The patent also describes how to manufacture the glass.

Per Wikipedia, borosilicate glass is highly resistant to thermal shock, which means that the glass won’t expand or contract much when experiencing hot and cold temperatures, respectively. Soda lime glass, on the other hand, is the most common type and is used for regular windowpanes, bottles, and jars, among other everyday applications.

The former was engineered for laboratory use (beakers and test tubes are obvious applications).
