Tesla's New Supercharger Congestion Fee Is Ridiculously Expensive

Users who incur congestion fees will have to pay $1 every minute the vehicle’s still connected, with no upper limit to encourage good charging habits and optimize the use of Supercharger stations. So if you take a long lunch, you might be hit with a $40 fine.

This applies whether there’s an available spot or not, as long as the Supercharger location is busy. However, Tesla has not stated exactly what “busy” means, leaving space for ambiguity. It’s also unclear whether Supercharger stations equipped with Magic Dock that allow non-Tesla vehicles are included.

In comparison, idle fees, which are being enforced even in Supercharger locations outside the US, will only incur $0.50 per minute when there are free spots or if the Supercharger station is at 50% capacity, going up to $1 when the Supercharger station is at 100% capacity.
