Third Quarter Sales Figures Show More Americans Are Buying New Cars

Toyota’s third-quarter sales are strong, with the automaker selling 590,296 vehicles across the Toyota and Lexus brands. That’s still some way behind General Motors, but there’s every chance the Japanese giant could catch up.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer hasn’t shared third-quarter sales statistics, so we must rely on the latest September figures. The venerable RAV4, one of America’s favorite passenger cars, ruled the roost, with sales totaling 38,098. The Camry was the next best performer, with sales of 25,485. Interestingly, the midsize sedan outsold the affordable Corolla (22,679) and Tacoma (20,579).

Despite its good looks, the new Prius recorded a mere 4,342 sales. The quirky Crown managed 2,421, which is more than the Supra (185), the GR86 (960), and the Mirai (132) combined.

On the Lexus front (26,250 in total), the RX proved most successful, with 9,405 units reaching customers. The NX (6,131), ES (3,394), and GX (2,932) also contributed to Lexus’ overall success.

Toyota’s total year-to-date sales stand at 1,628,816 vehicles.
