Toyota's $13,000 Hilux Champ Is A Jack Of Many Trades

In our current massive, overpriced pickup truck market, some manufacturers, like Toyota, will sell you a genuinely barebones, inexpensive option, just not in the US. Say hello to the Hilux Champ, Thailand’s newest pickup market entry, starting at a mere 459,000 baht, or about $13,000.

Like the Hilux GR Sport, this truck will be forbidden fruit. Still, that price is so crazy it has to make you wonder.

And what do you get for it? Well, rear-wheel drive, a bed with fold-down sides, a five-speed manual, and that’s about it. The base truck is so basic that it doesn’t have a radio or even a tachometer; this is a plain and simple tool, and any added frivolities will cost you.

If you really want amenities, we suggest you buy a Tacoma.
