Despite the arrival of the ID. Buzz – the EV nod to the Type 2 busses of the ’50s – Schafer isn’t keen on doing several revivals. Schafer even told the British publication that the retro path “would be a dead end.”
“We are proud of our heritage; there’s nothing wrong with that. And when you look back, it is something to be proud of. But it’s not what only defines us,” Schafer said.
With these statements, VW appears to have already set its intention to move forward instead of looking back and selling nostalgia. Of note, Schafer reportedly fired VW’s former design chief, Jozef Kaban, because he didn’t like the latter’s concepts, including the Trinity flagship EV, which led to the project’s eventual delay.
