In the first stages of the build, they slowly pulled off the car’s exhaust system, front and rear axles, and suspension system, among other components. Seeing as they didn’t want to bend the frame, they also ripped most of it out and fitted reinforced slabs of metal welded to the remaining bits of the original frame. It sounds dangerous, but they were painstakingly measured, modeled with cardboard, and carefully positioned. They did this to accommodate a pair of aftermarket axles from eBay, a four-wheel-drive system, long-travel shocks, and beefy tires.
The 4×4 transfer case is particularly interesting, as it comes from a 1992 Chevy 1500. Using an adapter kit, they mated this with a THM400 automatic gearbox. Interestingly, the transmission fits, but they had to cut out the cabin’s floor to accommodate the transfer case.
